Why Your Wife Stopped Initiating (and What You Can Actually Do About It)
Your wife used to start things and now she never does. Usually something made wanting you feel like work or a risk, and most of it is stuff you can change.

Remember how Ray Barone spent half of Everybody Loves Raymond trying to work out whether Debra was in the mood, usually while she stood there folding laundry and staring a hole through him? It was funny on a sitcom. It's a lot less funny when you're the guy lying in bed doing the math on how long it's been since your wife was the one who reached for you.
So she used to start things and now she doesn't. Maybe she still says yes when you make a move, maybe she doesn't, but either way you're the one carrying the whole thing and it's starting to wear on you. Most of the time a wife stops initiating because something in the marriage made wanting you feel like work, or like a risk. The good news is that most of that is stuff you have some say over, and the place to start is how she sees you on an ordinary Tuesday, long before the lights go out.
She isn't lying in bed thinking about sex the way you are
Know this: plenty of women don't get hit with desire out of nowhere the way men do. For a lot of wives it shows up after she's relaxed and feels close to you, and it shows up a lot less when she's lying there running tomorrow's to do list in her head. When she was dating you that happened all the time without anybody trying. You were new, there was no mortgage, and nobody needed a ride to soccer practice at 6:15.
Now she's got a full plate, and a woman who's mentally fried by 9 PM isn't going to be the one pulling you into the bedroom. That doesn't mean she's lost interest in you for good. It means the conditions that used to get her going aren't there anymore, and it's on you to rebuild some of them.
She's tired of being the only adult in the house
Be honest with yourself here. Who keeps track of the dentist appointments, the birthday parties, what's for dinner and whether the kid has clean clothes for picture day? If the answer is her, she probably sees you a little more like another person she has to manage and a little less like the man she wants to jump. It's tough to feel attracted to a guy when you're also the one reminding him to call the plumber.
I'm not telling you to become her personal assistant so she'll reward you with sex. I already wrote about why that chore trade never works, and doing the dishes with an expectation attached is something she can smell a mile away. Take real ownership of a piece of the household because a grown man handles his business. Pick something she's always stuck with and make it yours without asking for a gold star.
She got turned down, or she got pressured
Think back. Was there a stretch where she tried and you brushed her off because you were wiped out or glued to the game? Rejection stings women too, and after it happens a few times a lot of them just quit putting themselves out there. On the flip side, if every hug in the kitchen turns into you grabbing at her, she'll start avoiding the hugs too, since she knows where it's headed. Either way she learned that starting something with you isn't worth the hassle.
The fix for that one is pretty simple, even though it takes some discipline. Touch her when you aren't angling for anything. Kiss her goodbye like you mean it and then actually leave for work. Over time she figures out that affection from you doesn't come with a bill attached, and the guard starts coming down.
You've been talking about it too much
If you've had the big sit down conversation 4 or 5 times, complete with how many weeks it's been, you've turned your sex life into another problem she has to solve. Nobody gets turned on by a performance review. I went deep on this in Your Words Are Fueling Your Sexless Marriage, so give that a read if the pity talks have become a regular thing at your house.
Something bigger may be going on
Sometimes the reason has nothing to do with chores or timing. Resentment over an old fight that never got settled, a new baby, a health issue or her hormones can all shut desire down. If she seems flat across the board and not just with you, encourage her to get a checkup and back her up on it (and maybe book one for yourself while you're at it). If there's a real issue sitting between you two, it's better to get it out in the open than to keep pretending it isn't there.
It's also worth asking whether you've quietly let the whole marriage slide. In Bro Chat #166 I laid out 10 Signs You're Settling in Your Marriage, and a few of them tend to show up right alongside a wife who's stopped reaching for you.
Where to go from here
Start with how you show up at home, and quit keeping score on her. Give her some room to want you again instead of waiting around for her to be asked. A lot of men make the same handful of mistakes once the bedroom cools off, and I broke them down in When the Bedroom Goes Cold: The 7 Mistakes Men Make. If you want the bigger picture on being a better husband when things go cold, that's a good next read too… just don't expect her to flip a switch overnight. It took a while to get here, and it'll take a few weeks of you being steady before she starts testing the waters again.
