The end of summer is a time where high school grads move into college dorms, and college grads move into their apartments. It’s exciting to be out on your own, with no “house rules” to follow except for the ones you write. Making a move for the first time can be stressful, but through trial and error, eventually you will get it right. If you’re moving, here is a helpful checklist of the things you’ll need to make the new place livable from day one.
Things you need in your new place:
- Bed, including mattress, box spring, frame
- Pillows
- Extra sheets (what will you do while your sheets are in the wash?)
- Comforter
- Toilet paper (try scheduling these on Amazon prime)
- Wet wipes (encourage your guests to stay fresh)
- Paper towel
- Lysol wipes (to wipe down anything gross)
- Tissues
- Soap (both hand and body)
- Mouthwash
- Toothpaste
- First aid kit
- Drinking Glasses (or plastic cups)
- Plates
- Bowls
- Silverware
- Microwave or toaster oven
- Couches
- Rug
- Blinds or drapes (unless you like strangers seeing naked)
- Tv stand or entertainment center
- Pots
- Pans
- Blender (for those protein shakes)
- Oven mitts
- Hand Towels
- Body towels
- Plunger (can’t let clogs hold you down)
- Kitchen table
- Chairs
- Coffee table
- Night stand
- Side Lamps
- Large lamps
- Light bulbs
- Mop
- Vacuum
- Broom and shovel
- Garbage bags
- Garbage pails
- Recycle bin
- Spices and condiments
- Windex
- Draino (for tough clogs)
- Lysol
- Dish soap
- Dishwasher fluid (or else they won’t come out too clean)
- Sponges
- Speakers or stereo
- Laundry detergent
- Laundry bag or basket (how are you transporting all of those dirty clothes?)
- Batteries (your tv remote will die)
- Hangers for your clothes
- Iron (can’t go out looking sloppy)
- Ironing board
- Dresser
- Surge suppressor outlet (to plug in multiple things at once)
- Extension cord
- Step stool
- Fan
- Bottle of Advil (for hangovers)
- Bottle of Pepto (for hangovers)
- Bottle of pedialyte (for hangovers)
- Tool kit (screwdriver, pliers, tape measure, hammer, nails)
- Coffee machine, Keurig, or Nespresso
- Water filter, Brita, or bottled water
This should help getting you started. Now you’ve got to worry about a bunch of other things, food shopping, finding a good dry cleaner/tailor, and finding ladies worthy of being invited back to the man cave. Good luck!
